“i.m.migrant” conveys messages of race, migration, the myth of the American Dream, and the following disappointment and betrayal. Kang illuminates the experience of isolation and pain of immigrants in this country. She wishes to shine light on the effect of US’s neo-imperialism in South Korea, the source of the Korean diaspora in the world.

대지, d[ae]ji, the Korean word for expansive earth is my starting ground. This collection of prints explore resilience, womanhood, and nature. It began with the hope of going beyond the barrier that is myself. Because English is my second-language, I sought out printmaking as a way want to communicate without language barriers and without being discriminated as an immigrant Korean American woman. I am the eldest daughter, a woman, a mother, an Asian, a divorcee, an immigrant, a domestic violence survivor, and a Korean. I am journeying to embrace them all without shame. My wish is to be an artist free from violence, a woman who stands tall in front of her first dream, and an aging immigrant mother who can show others it’s never too late for a new start.
