Yoo A Kang first came to the United States in 1990. She raised two children in Minnesota and moved to South Bend to join her daughter in 2015. In starting her new life as a domestic violence survivor, she turned to printmaking to process her experiences at the intersection of being an immigrant, a Korean, a woman of color, and a mother. In June of 2018, Yoo A Kang had her first exhibition, “d[ae]ji: woman & land / on rising” at the Waldron Arts Center in Bloomington, IN. Kang’s first solo exhibition opens this autumn at the Civil Rights Heritage Center: “i.m.migration.”
